Hot
Off The Boogie Bob Wire...
January
16, 2009
Wow! After a great show at Rusty's, Zen Boogie has been tabbed to
do an industry showcase at The Viper Room on Sunset Boulevard in West
Hollywood on Monday night January 25th at 8pm. It's a 30 minute set,
which we're going to definitely get the most out of. We've also
uploaded some terrific pictures taken by jill socolik on my FACEBOOK
page (Robert Linden), so check them out. In addition to FACEBOOK
and MYSPACE, Zen Boogie is now found on TWITTER, JAMBASE and LIVE BLUES
WORLD amongst others.

A lot has been going on in the last couple months! We've been
sailing high since our last couple shows, but for various reasons had
to take a break for the month of December. Bob Ryman's personal
and professional schedule has forced him to leave Zen Boogie and will
be replaced by a terrific bass man, Doug Snyder. Jeff Oliver has
had to take what we hope is a temporary leave from the band as well and
will be replaced in his absence by another terrific local drummer, Bob
Girius. Finally, many of you know that since David Box left to
move back to Austin Texas almost two years ago, I have been
hard-pressed to find another man with the vibe, chops and character he
possesses. I have finally found a saxman who can again blow my
socks
off with the incredible Larry Williams
stepping on stage. Zen Boogie's sound is definitely
evolving! I hope everyone will come out Saturday night January
2nd at Rusty's Surf Ranch on the Santa Monica Pier to witness that
evolution! As always, the Performances
page has all the info.

Wow, September is destined to be a month to remember! Robert's
song "Too Hip For The Room" has been announced the winner of the 2009
MALIBU MUSIC AWARD for BEST JAZZ / BIG BAND SONG! ZB will perform
the song at the ceremony in Malibu on September 26th. Then three
days later, ZB will play their first performance at the new DAKOTA
LOUNGE in Santa Monica, Tuesday night September 29th with a rare 10pm
start. If you've never been to the Dakota you're in for a
treat. It's really worth venturing out for the band's
later-than-usual start. It's formerly the Temple Bar, and way
long ago it was At My Place - which is where one of Bob's favorite
blues bands, Billy Vera and The Beaters used to often play (and Robert
himself played with his old band, "BACKSTREET".)
In October, the band has announced that they will have their own booth
at the Showbiz Expo being held at the L.A. Convention Center where they
will perform regularly throughout the day. What a hoot.
(More on that soon!)

It's been a rather poorly-kept secret that Robert's been spending much
of the last couple months recovering from left shoulder and elbow
surgery. Keeping up with band rehearsals, trying to write, but
very little performing - except for some private events. That
changes when the band travels to Westchester to take part in the 4-day
Sweet & Hot Labor Day weekend Jazz Festival.

I was grateful that a song I wrote to promote the return of missing
children was performed by Zen Boogie on the occasion of THE NATIONAL
VIGIL FOR HOPE. Here is a specially-created video of the song

to bandwidth theft and theft of our email address for spam. If
you want to be on ZB's email list, send an email to Robert (Connect To Robert).

ZEN BOOGIE'S SCHEDULED SHOW FOR BB KING'S (CITYWALK)
MAY 10TH HAS BEEN CANCELLED. We were
notified late last night that BB KING'S has abruptly closed permanently
as of May 1st. However, in place of that date, 2 shows have been
scheduled for Saturday May 17th and Friday June 13th at The Palmer in
Palms (West LA). We are also trying to reschedule our live-show
recording date originally slated for BB King's to Hallenbeck's & Caheunga General Store sometime
in the next couple months. Please check the Performances

After some server issues, things are slowly getting back to normal here
on the Boogie Net. The biggest news is the new shows coming up.
Next week at the Karma Coffeehouse and coming soon a big show to be
recorded and streamed live from BB King's at Universal CityWalk.
Also we are making arrangements to create a "Wine and Jazz" cruise for
40 guests from Marina Del Rey which should be incredibly fun. One
more thing... we've just been invited back to play 3 shows over Labor
Day at the Sweet And Hot Jazz Festival in Westchester. So lots of
great news to follow on our Performances
page. Come out and catch the band as we continue to grow! SIGN THE GUESTBOOK
and SEND US EMAILS...
we love hearing from you!!!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO EVERYONE. This has been a year of changes and
growth for me. I'm grateful for so much and appreciate all who
have shown me and my music such unbelievable support.
Along those lines I am happy to annouce that my band Zen Boogie has
agreed to play the next two months at Hollywood's very cool Karma
Coffeehouse at
Cahuenga and Selma starting February 2nd 2008. This will be a
very relaxed atmosphere -similar to what worked so well at our recent
performance at Sushi Wok. Our Performances page
will carry the necessary 411 as always.

Coming off of a couple of terrific shows, ZB has been invited to be the
Saturday "wake up" Band at the Annual Labor Day Weekend Sweet and Hot
Jazz Festival in Westchester. We actually play at 10am at the
poolside stage, which is surrounded by the guests room on all
sides. Assuming that all the guests are there for the weekend
festival, waking them up to our music will hopefully be a gentle and
not jarring alarm! This is a terrific weekend of Jazz, so check
our Performances
page and the www.sweethot.org website.

Zen Boogie will be performing on July 14, 2007 at BB King's Blues Club

page.

Thanks to all the emails about upcoming shows for Zen Boogie. Yes
we will
be back performing soon with new songs as well as the
favorites. The band is evolving in many exciting ways.
David Box (saxophone) has just returned from 3 months as Music Director
on a cruise line sailing from the East Coast to Jamaica and the
Bahamas. Bob Ryman will be joining the band as its bassist and is
also a phenominal jazz violinist (not to mention cellist). Other
exciting changes are afoot as the band takes a quantum leap
forward. We thank our fans for their support and hope you'll keep
writing.
Keep an eye both here and at www.zenboogie.net (not to
mention www.myspace.com/zenboogie) for the latest 411 on our activities!

June has been a month of private parties, but July sees Zen Boogie jump
back into the public eye with shows at BB King's Blues Club at Citywalk
in Universal City. Further upcoming shows are now being planned
for July, August and September and will include Mr. Cecil's in Sherman
Oaks, The Derby in Los Feliz and The Pig and Whistle in
Hollywood. Pasadena and Manhattan Beach locations are also being
discussed. Keep an eye on the Performances
page as well as the Zen
Boogie website at www.zenboogie.net
and our cool site at my space where we hope
everyone will head and join our list of friends.

Great show last night, a new song added to the mix, and a great crowd
came out. I feel a "blog" coming
on! Also the temporary front page for the Zen Boogie website at www.zenboogie.net
is up. It has links to our my space site as
well. If you're a my space member, come say hi and become one of
our friends. If you're not a my space member... JOIN! It's
developed quite a community of musicians.

Due to the unethical theft of bandwidth by hackers causing the shutdown
(twice) of the website in the last month, I've had to discontinue the
blog as a feedback page. It will soon re-emerge but as a
diary-only page... sorry... I really enjoyed sharing the feedback, but
I still encourage your responses directly to me (see "Connect To Robert")

A couple of changes in the performance schedule. An issue between
the promoter and venue has caused the cancellation of the show at
Tempest. Also note that the RJ's show has been moved to Friday

info.

My very good friend, Lori Guidroz has produced a website: WhatItMeans.org to raise money

If you give, you get a cool Tshirt. Ellen DeGeneres wore one on
her show. Check it out... a great way to donate to the cause!
